About the Company

Gerrit DuranFounded in 1981 by Gerrit Duran, Duran Audio is a company strongly based on research.

We don't just design loud speakers, we develop products that are solutions to electro acoustical problems!

 

 

Our R&D team has four main areas of competence:

• Electro-Acoustic/Loudspeaker design
• Digital and Analogue Electronic Design
• Digital Signal processing
• Software development, user interfaces

Duran Audio or AXYS®?

Duran Audio is the company name, named after our founder Gerrit Duran. AXYS is the registered trade mark and the name that we trade under.

Key Dates in Duran Audio History

1981 Duran Audio, founded by Gerrit Duran, was formed in s’Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands
1986 Source System was introduced, one of the first actively controlled and self powered loudspeaker systems.
1987 Company moved to a larger facility at Zalbommel, its present location.
1990 Duran Audio GmbH founded.
1993 MAC28 a 28 channel, Modular Array Controller was developed.
The MAC28 was equipped with a DSP chip for each channel!
1994 First commercial use of DDC Technology at Schiphol Airport, using the MAC28 controller in combination with a custom designed speaker array. This product was the world’s first digitally controlled line array.

1994 The Octarray is developed, with the ability to process eight audio channels simultaneously. The Octarray is launched along side the self powered Octavox-1a and Octavox-2c
1996 The Intellivox 2C was launched. This is the world’s first commercially available, fully integrated, digitally controlled loudspeaker array. Network control was then executed from a host PC running DOS.
1999 DDS Technology is introduced.
1999 Duran Audio France founded
2000 Duran Audio present the theory behind DDS, digital directivity synthesis at the Institute of Acoustics conference in the UK.
2002 Duran Audio UK founded
2004 DDS technology becomes available in both AXYS Intellivox and Target products.
2005 Second generation of DDC products introduced with improved functionality in the DSP and new 4” drivers.
2006 IntelliDisc-DS90 is launched. It is the world’s first fully integrated digitally controlled two dimensional loudspeaker array.
2007 Duran Audio Iberia founded
2007 Larger Manufacturing, Research and Development facility built
