Flexible loudspeakers? What else would you expect from the company that pioneered electronically steerable arrays; Duran Audio are a company that never stops thinking.

The latest loudspeaker products from the AXYS R&D lab are the Flex U-12G2, U-14G2 and UFM-265 . But why flexible, are Duran making arrays that you can bend now? Not yet, but who knows what the future holds, these new products are the latest generation of the companies highly successful Flex range. Flexible because of the amount of applications that these units can be used for, they are ideal for use in Theatre as: Front Fills, Under Balcony Fills, Surround Loudspeakers and Monitors whilst equally useful in the AV/Corporate world for Boardrooms & Presentation Audio and are an ideal choice for small bars and clubs. Being all things to all market segments doesn’t mean that the sound of the units is compromised though, the units remain true to Duran’s philosophy of “Total Transparency” and the U-12, U-14 and UFM-265 sound more like a touring ready studio monitors than a contractor product.

Both the U-12 and U-14 as well as the UFM-265 are fitted with built in amplification and a powerful DSP and are network ready so the units can be easily controlled and configured from the AXYS WinControl software. The U-12 consists of a 6.5” driver and a soft dome tweeter while the U-14 and UFM-265 boasts an additional 6.5” driver. Don’t be deceived by their compact dimensions though, these boxes pack a punch and have an amazing amount of low end for an enclosure of their size.

The AXYS^®Flex G2 range has been designed to meet a wide variety of applcations which include sound reinforcement for: theatre, places of worship, live music venues, night clubs, conferences and TV studios to name but a few. Key features 2-way active design Lightweight high linear excursion low frequency drivers with good transient response and high sensitivity. Built-in amplification Built-in Digital Signal Processing High power to weight ratio - weight has been minimised with 'state of the art' neodymium drivers. RS-485 network ready. Powerful DSP control Each unit in the AXYS^® FlexG2 range has an extremely powerful on-board DSP which can be controlled via an RS-485 network. Built-in amplification means the electronics are closely coupled to the drivers and a line level input stage with a very high CMRR gives accurate and clean 'Totally Transparent' Sound reproduction. AXYS^® WinControl is the PC based Control software, developed by our in-house R&D team, specifically for AXYS^® products. WinControl offers users: Full control of the DSP features, which include: Delay, Gain and 8 band parametric EQ setting. Choice of downloadable settings for different applications. 8 on-board presets - providing factory defined and user configurable presets, including the option to individually lock / password protect presets. Highly Advanced Digital Limiting algorithms. Surveillance functionality which includes: load monitoring and fault detection; real time input and output level monitoring. Grouping - loudspeakers can be grouped to adjust the delay, gain and EQ of a complete group at the same time.
		What happens if you don’t have a PC with you? - For quick and simple operation each unit has a recessed button on the rear panel which can be used to: Select the next preset - A short button press (< ~1 second) selects the next preset. Presets are numbered from 0 to 7 and will loop back to zero. Select preferential preset - A long button press (>= ~ 1 second) will select the preferential preset. The preset used can be selected by the user.

Rigging The U12 and U14 models have recessed M8 nutplates on the top, bottom and sides of the cabinet which means they can be used either with a portrait or a landscape bracket. (A portrait bracket is supplied as standard). The UFM265 does not come with any rigging points as it is designed to be used as a floor monitor.

Low end extension When a lower frequency response or more headroom at low frequency is required from the system the units can be used in combination with any of the AXYS range of Beam Shaping Subwoofers.
